KNOCK KNOCK … IT'S TIME !! WE ALL AS A PARENT WANTS BEST FOR OUR KIDS MAY IT BE CLOTHES THEY WEAR , FOOD THEY EAT ,BEDDINGS ON WHICH THEY SLEEP AND OF COURSE THEIR HEALTH IS OUR TOP NOTCH PRIORITY

Do you know DENTAL HEALTH is equally important !!! It can be easily achieved when we have a night time routine. Predictable night time routines help children understand and learn what to expect and what comes next. Regardless of your child’s age, the key is to have a predictable series of steps that help them unwind from the day. Proper oral health care in very young children starts by having them brush their teeth before bed. This small nightly ritual will be a helpful building block towards a lifetime of a healthy mouth.

Routines are proven to ease the stress specially when  you have a fixed bed time routine .  Cleaning and the feeling of being clean is good for your body. When you feel clean, your brain gets a jump start by producing endorphins that make you feel good. Endorphin production can also make you feel less stressed and in general can put you in a better mood to sleep.

Do you know night time brushing is more important than morning brushing ??

Brushing your teeth before bed helps avoid the dangers of bacteria that lead to cavities and other issues. While we sleep, saliva is produced less and bacteria feeds on any leftover food or debris. Left in our mouths, these lead to cavities and visits to the dentist.

Few tips for the parents to guide night time  brushing with their children :

1 .BE A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUR KIDS :

Children look up to their parents and most young children want to do what their parents do. Brushing together before bed will allow your child to learn the importance of a routine and the right way to brush their teeth.

  1. USING CORRECT TECHNIQUE FOR BRUSHING :

While brushing, make sure to monitor using soft bristles toothbrushes with adequate amounts of fluoride containing toothpaste. Swallowing too much excess toothpaste can be dangerous.

Safe Toothpaste Amounts for Kids

  • Age 3 and Over = Size of Pea
  • Age 3 and Under = Grain of Rice
  1. ALWAYS SUPERVISE WHILE THEY ARE BRUSHING :The main aim of parental supervision is to ensure that the child does brushing using correct technique. ADA highly recommend that parents supervise their children while they brush their teeth – some even until the age of eight.

4. MAKE TOOTHBRUSHING A DAILY ROUTINE:

Having a regular bedtime routine over time your the child to know what to expect as his or her bedtime gets closer each day. Additionally, it can relieve the pressures felt by many parents when it comes time to tuck their kids in bed.

5.Give rewards :

Create a reward system to encourage night time brushing. Rewards can be listening to their favorite bedtime story or giving extra 15 min playtime the next day .The prospect of a reward could convince your kids to cooperate with night time brushing .

It only takes 2 minutes to brush teeth, but that 2 minutes can become an hour or longer when a child refuses to comply. Keep these tips in mind and try to make tooth brushing fun.

Also make sure to visit your dentist for regular oral health checkups …
